Future goal

One year from now we will be expanding our Counseling Room services (additional 24/7 consultation staff) to serve 1500 clients (up 50%).

Five years from now we will become a point model in providing comprehensive, effective support to victims of gender-based violence (in principle)

Ten years from now we will become a national center of support for women, providing safe shelter, psychological counseling, medical, educational and legal services, training, etc.

On-going priority issues

1. Gender-based violence is a daily occurrence for many women and girls in Vietnam. The damage caused by violence is enormous – it destroys lives, destroys communities and impedes national development. (According to research by the Center for International Studies of Women, 2009. )

2. According to a 2014 report from the Hanoi Police Department, 60% of perpetrators who commit murder are a family member of the victim.

3. Every year, thousands of Vietnamese women and girls are trafficked for sex to China, Cambodia and through to other countries. (Report on Gender-based violence, UN Viet Nam 2010)

4. According to the five-year report on the implementation of Vietnam’s 2004-2009 National Plan for the Prevention of Trafficking of Women and Children nationwide, there were 1,586 cases of human trafficking involving more than 4,008 victims. 2,888 people were arrested for trafficking-related crimes.
